Omaha Reads: Lonely Folks

Dr. Todd Richardson will discuss the loneliness that exists in rural communities along with an exploration of loneliness as a theme in literature. Richardson received his Ph.D. in English at the University of Missouri in 2011 and joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska Omaha that year. Within the Goodrich Scholarship Program, he teaches English Composition, Autobiographical Reading and Writing, and Perspectives on American Culture. Richardson has had articles in prestigious journals like the Journal of American Folklore and Cather Studies, and he has had satirical essays and comic strips published in creative outlets like Harper Palate. In Collaboration with UNO's Goldstein Family Community Chair in Human Rights. This is a free event for Adults. Registration is encouraged and opens September 1. The 2026 Omaha Reads selection, "Remarkably Bright Creatures," tells the story of Tova, a lonely widow whose son disappeared 30 years ago, and her connection to a giant Pacific octopus who lives at the aquarium where she works.
