Omaha Reads: iMovie Memories

Meeting Room 1. Preserve the stories of someone special by creating a short digital movie using the iMovie app on your own iPhone or iPad. (You must bring your own iPhone or iPad; we will not provide these devices for you to use.) During this hands-on workshop, you'll combine family photographs with your own recorded narration to create a meaningful keepsake that celebrates the life and legacy of a loved one. Library staff will provide step-by-step instruction throughout the program, guiding you through the process of importing photos, recording your voice, adding music (optional), and assembling your movie in iMovie. By the end of the session, you'll have a completed short film to share with family and friends. No previous video editing experience is necessary. Basic familiarity with using your iPhone or iPad is recommended. Please bring: Your personal iPhone or iPad with the iMovie app installed (This program is not for Android devices) Digital or scanned photographs of your family member that are already saved to your device (or bring printed photos and we will help you add them to your iPhone or iPad) Memories and stories you'd like to share Parents/caregivers must remain with their child(ren) for the duration of the program and are encouraged to help younger children with the activity. This is a free event for ages 8+. Registration is required and opens August 1. The 2026 Omaha Reads selection, "Remarkably Bright Creatures," tells the story of Tova, a widow whose son disappeared 30 years ago, and her connection to a giant Pacific octopus who lives at the aquarium where she works.
