Omaha Reads: Aging in Nebraska

Meeting Room. Dr. Christopher Kelly will discuss the shift of long-term supportive services from institutional care to residential care and towards occupations such as personal and home care aides, which reflect the growing tendency of older adults to age in place. Christopher M. Kelly, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Gerontology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dr. Kelly’s research interests include the extent and effectiveness of state nursing home survey activity, the development of alternatives to nursing home care, including home and community-based services (HCBS), and the recruitment, training, and retention of the direct care workforce. In Collaboration with UNO's Goldstein Family Community Chair in Human Rights. This is a free event for Adults. Registration is encouraged and opens Sept. 1. The 2026 Omaha Reads selection, "Remarkably Bright Creatures," tells the story of Tova, a lonely widow whose son disappeared 30 years ago, and her connection to a giant Pacific octopus who lives at the aquarium where she works.
