Old School D&D - Youth Edition (Ages 10-15)

Youth Program Space. Due to multiple requests from parents, we're going to try and offer our Old-School D&D game sessions to younger folks! This will be a trial run of eight game sessions, once per month. We're starting on Saturday, March 14th, and each subsequent month will also fall on the 2nd Saturday: April 11th - May 16th - June 13th - No July game - August 8th - Sept 12th - October 10th The version of D&D we'll be playing is commonly referred to as Basic/Expert, or B/X for short. This refers to the first two books of the simplest version of D&D ever published, which came out in the early 1980s. There will be pre-generated characters for attendees to choose from, and each game session will be open to new players. The rules are not very different from modern versions of D&D, but the simplification is better suited to a library game program that will likely have players brand new to tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs). Plus, the two old fogey librarians who will be running these games prefer the older editions... We're limited to two referees, or Dungeon Masters, for these sessions, so there is a maximum capacity of around 14 total players. Once we reach that maximum, anyone arriving afterward will unfortunately be turned away and have to come another time. TTRPGs like D&D cannot accommodate too many players, so this limit will not be negotiable. These games, much like most video games, have simulated violence throughout the game, and it is common for a player's character to not survive the adventure. This is no problem for players if their character dies halfway through the session, we'll have plenty of other pre-generated characters they can choose from and join right back in! However, we ask parents to decide beforehand if they think their child is well-suited to both considerations before bringing them. 10 years old is the minimum age for this program.
