Session 2 of the series Being Mortal: Advance Care Planning & End of Life Choices. This session includes discussion of ethical issues related to VSED & dementia. Families often prepare extensively for birth, with conversations that include loved ones and health care providers. But it seems much harder for us to prepare for death, even though we've all experienced the deaths of people we love and each of us will die one day. Let's support each other in this community with information and assistance for advance care planning, a gift of clarity and kindness for our loved ones. Join us in this series. What is a good death? These free presentations and discussions will address this question in a variety of ways and explore options for care at the end-of-life. Topics will include advance care planning, palliative care, hospice, voluntarily stopping eating and drinking (VSED), and medical aid in dying (MAiD). Co-sponsored by Compassion & Choices, City of Roseville, Roseville Area Senior Program, Ramsey County Libraries, and Roseville Alzheimer’s & Dementia Community Action Team (Rsvl A/D) Victor M Sandler, MD, has practiced medicine in Minnesota for over 45 years. He has been boarded in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He is currently with HealthPartners Hospice. He is on the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School, teaching in the Hospice and Palliative medicine fellowship program. He has extensive experience with care of the elderly in community, institutional, and hospice settings. His focus has been on ethical decision making, end of life care, and advance care planning; he has lectured and consulted widely on these topics. From 2000-2020 he Co-chaired the University of Minnesota Medical Center Bioethics Committee and consulted in primarily challenging end of life cases.
