Novena Prayer to Saint Anthony of Padua

St. Anthony the Wonder-Worker Always Answers! Bring your needs to him. For over 700 years, St. Anthony has been renowned as the “Saint of Miracles.” We will pray to Saint Anthony for a period of nine days, June 5 – June 13. All petitioners are remembered in daily prayers and masses during the novena. About St. Anthony Anthony was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1195. As a young man, he felt a call to God’s Will and dreamed of becoming a Franciscan Missionary. Illness prevented his traveling to North Africa so he traveled to Italy and became a faithful companion of St. Francis of Assisi. Proclaiming the gospel throughout Northern Italy and Southern France, defending the poor, striking out against evil, and filling the people’s hearts with faith and love. Anthony passed away in 1231 and was proclaimed a Saint the following year. He is the patron of the poor (St. Anthony’s bread) and is popularly invoked as the finder of lost articles. He is depicted holding the infant Jesus because of a vision recorded of him. The Franciscan Brothers, who are charged with the care of the Black Madonna Shrine and Grottos, invite you to join us and the Shrine staff in offering prayers to St. Anthony the Miracle Worker.
