Join us Thursday, September 17th at 8:00 PM at the Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte, North Carolina for the North Mississippi Allstars. Led by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, the North Mississippi Allstars have been making their distinctive brand of Mississippi music since 1996. Their sound draws heavily from the North Mississippi Hill Country blues tradition, with influences from legendary musicians such as R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner, and Fred McDowell. They blend those deep blues roots with Southern rock, psychedelic rock, gospel, funk, and extended improvisation to create what they call “Modern Mississippi Music.” (North Mississippi Allstars, Set Sail⁠) The band has earned five GRAMMY nominations for Best Contemporary Blues Album, including nominations for Shake Hands with Shorty, 51 Phantom, Electric Blue Watermelon, Up and Rolling, and Set Sail. (Grammy⁠) Their live shows are known for being energetic, loose, and heavily rooted in the spirit of Mississippi blues—music that’s as much about the groove and improvisation as it is about the songs.
