About this event

Join us on September 8th at 7 p.m. at the Clapp Memorial Library in Belchertown, MA, for a special presentation of the new book No To Nuclear: Why Nuclear Power Destroys Lives, Derails Climate Progress and Provokes War, with author Linda Pentz Gunter. The climate crisis is very clearly upon us. The nuclear power industry would like us to believe it is the answer. But who pays the price for that choice? No To Nuclear blasts aside claims that nuclear power is safe, green, and affordable, revealing a predatory and exploitative industry beneath the PR veneer. The book not only makes the irresistible case that nuclear power is too slow, too expensive, too dangerous and too integrally connected to the nuclear weapons complex, it also delves into the lives of Indigenous peoples and communities of color, who have been harmed the most by the nuclear sector. And it questions whether the way we devalue nature, the environment and the other animals with whom we share this planet, is costing us the chance of a genuinely just energy transition. Linda Pentz Gunter is the founder of the US-based non-profit Beyond Nuclear and serves as its Executive Director. She also launched and writes for her organization’s news platform, Beyond Nuclear International. A former journalist with Reuters, she currently writes for the Morning Star (UK) and Ralph Nader’s Capitol Hill Citizen.
