Nifty 50's with Jonathan Boschen: Singing In The Rain

The Greenfield Garden Cinemas will be debuting its next classic film series with film and theatre historian Jonathan Boschen on Monday September 7th! The series kicks off with one of the great Hollywood musical of all time (and one of Boschen’s favorites), “Singing In The Rain” from 1952 starring Gene Kelley, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor. Prior to the movie, Boschen will be discussing the backstory of the movie, info on it’s stars, technical details and even information on its first Greenfield showing! Boschen’s introduction starts at 6:30, and a screening of the movie will immediately follow. Admission is $11.00 for adults, and $8:50 for children, seniors, and students. “Sining In The Rain” is the first movie in this new classic film series, and three other movies are booked for exhibition consisting of: “North By Northwester” (1959) on October 5, “Mister Roberts” (1955) on November 2, and “The Father of the Bride” (1950) on December 7. Five more movies will be planned for Winter and Spring 2027! “Singing In the Rain” is a 1952 musical set in Hollywood during the roaring 20s when the Hollywood was learning to talk. The film follows silent film star Don Lockwood, his sidekick Cosmo Brown (Donald O’Connor), and aspiring actress Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) during this exciting but chaotic transition period in Hollywood. The movie made its grand premiere in New York City at the Radio City Music Hall on March 27, 1952, and was released on April 10, 1952. It was first shown in Greenfield on April 30, 1952 where it played at the 1800 seat Garden Theatre for seven days! Since its release the movie has become a favorite to many classic film fans and is regarded as one of the great Hollywood musicals of all time.
