About this event

Steinberg Reading Room, Elting Memorial Library. Join us in the Steinberg Room on Monday, November 30th at 7 PM for our latest program in partnership with New Paltz Historical Society. Local academic Ron Knapp will discuss the first covered bridges in New Paltz. The talk was originally scheduled for June. This talk will present new information concerning three covered timber bridges erected along the Wallkill River in the 1820s - New Paltz, Perrine's, and Phillies - with information about them over time down to the present. Register to get an email reminder the day before the program. Registration is optional. Ron Knapp, Emeritus Professor from SUNY New Paltz, has been carrying out research on the historical geography of the United State, including covered bridges, for decades and China for more than a half century. He is the author, editor, or contributor of more than 20 books as well as many articles on these subjects. Concerning the Wallkill River bridges in New Paltz, see his online article with a pdf from the Built Heritage journal "In search of America’s old covered bridges" https://built-heritage.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s43238-021-00028-8
