New Mexico Museum of Space History Celebrates World Space Week with Free Astronomy League Star Party

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — The New Mexico Museum of Space History invites the public to explore the night sky during a free Astronomy League Star Party on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Presented during World Space Week and in participation with REIMAGINE SPACE: NEW MEXICO, the statewide initiative curated by STEMarts Lab, the evening brings together astronomy, education, science, and community curiosity at the Museum’s campus in Alamogordo. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. inside the New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium with a guided Constellation Tour. Participants will discover prominent stars, familiar constellations, and the myths and cosmic stories woven into the night sky. At 7:30 p.m., guests will move to the Museum’s Observatory Complex for telescope viewing with astronomy experts. Throughout the evening, visitors can observe planets, distant star clusters, and other celestial objects through high-powered telescopes, weather permitting. The event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring a flashlight, wear comfortable shoes, and arrive ready to explore. Restroom access will be available inside the theater. Parking is available in the upper parking lot above the New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium. The Star Party takes place on the final day of World Space Week, the United Nations-declared annual observance held October 4–10. The 2026 theme, “Rocket Revolution,” recognizes advances in rocket technology and the expanding possibilities for access to space. REIMAGINE SPACE: NEW MEXICO connects partner-led events across the state that celebrate New Mexico’s relationship with space through art, science, technology, and culture. The event also continues the New Mexico Museum of Space History’s 50th Anniversary celebration, honoring five decades of preserving, interpreting, and sharing the stories of space exploration.
