Nature's Spirits – Special Evening Out

Inspired by rich cultural traditions—including ancient Mayan mythology, which reveres hummingbirds as sacred messengers carrying notes from ancestors and loved ones—this mini exhibit transforms the gardens with a Day of the Dead-inspired backdrop of bold colors, striking silhouettes and autumn blooms. Encounter the colorful calaveras gigantes, or large decorative skulls, bringing a colorful presence to the gardens. Much of the art onsite was developed by volunteers, Ventura College art students and kids at the IDEA center on the westside. For one special night on Saturday, October 24, from 5pm to 8pm, visit VBG after dark. Savor the evening as a fortune teller, tucked inside a giant, hummingbird-inspired nest, peeks into your future.
