About this event
Paul Kelpe (1902-85), Man and Machinery (detail), circa 1934, oil on canvas, courtesy of the Thomas H. and Diane DeMell Jacobsen PhD Foundation Shake up your morning routine with Morning Muse, a new program designed to bring people together over coffee, art, and ideas at the Taubman Museum of Art. This month, Laura K. Higgins, Curator of 75th Anniversary Gifts to the Permanent Collection, takes a closer look at Modernism through works featured in American Made: Paintings and Sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen Collection. As American artists entered the 20th century, many began experimenting with new ways of seeing and representing a rapidly changing world. Through selected paintings and sculpture in American Made, Higgins will explore how artists broke with convention, experimented with form, color, and abstraction, and developed distinctly modern approaches to making art. Come early to grab a cup of coffee and connect with others, then head into the galleries for a short, engaging conversation that might leave you looking at Modernism (and American art) a little differently. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply curious, Morning Muse offers a creative boost before work, school, or whatever the rest of your day holds. Members: Free | General Public: $5 Not a Member?
