About this event

In this one-day three-hour hands-on workshop, participants will decorate bisque-fired pottery pieces using a modified Majolica technique. Participants have the option of bringing up to three of their own bisque-fired pieces to paint, or they can purchase already fired plates and/or bowls online through the workshop section of this website. Previous pottery experience is not required to take this workshop. Traditional Majolica is an Italian tin-glazed pottery technique dating back to the Renaissance. Bisque-fired pottery is decorated with bright colors on a white background. This workshop will use a modified Majolica technique employing watercolor effects. Underglazes are mixed with water and painted on bisque fired pieces to which white glaze has previously been applied. The underglazes are applied to the pottery as if painting a watercolor painting on paper. The intentional or unintentional bleeding of the colors is what gives this technique its beauty.
