In partnership with Carnegie Hall’s United in Sound: America at 250, MOCA is excited to present a series of music programs featuring composers, musicians, and performers. Through this series, artists use music as a storytelling medium to share their personal journeys, creative inspirations, and cultural influences. Continuing more than a century of Chinese opera’s legacy in the United States, this program reimagines a classic tale through the lens of Chinese opera—inviting older generations to reminisce and younger Asian Americans to discover the beauty of this timeless art form. Presented in a nontraditional space, the performance pays homage to Chinese opera’s arrival in America during the mid-19th century. Through this world-renowned tale, audiences will experience acrobatics, martial arts, and elaborate costumes in a celebration of the nation’s rich cultural diversity and this enduring artistic tradition. This program is in partnership with Chinese Theater Works.
