Michael Ragonese is a Los Angeles based pianist and composer leading a modern jazz trio featuring Luca Alemanno on bass and Anthony Fung on drums. Blending contemporary composition with a deep connection to the jazz tradition, the trio’s music draws from modern jazz, classical influences, and Ragonese’s Italian upbringing. Having performed together for nearly a decade, the group has developed a strong musical chemistry centered around interaction, lyricism, rhythmic exploration, and collective improvisation. Ragonese and his trio has performed throughout the United States, Canada, France, Spain, and Italy, appearing in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Paris, Barcelona, Bologna, and Bari playing at top jazz clubs and festivals. The group tours regularly and its members have collectively performed with artists including Walter Smith III, Ben Wendel, Seamus Blake, Joel Ross, Billy Childs, Mark Turner, and Miguel Zenón. The group’s sound comes from nearly a decade of performing and touring together, combining strong melodic writing, high energy, and a highly interactive approach to improvisation.
