Michael Chan

Michael Chan is currently the Vice President for Mission and Inclusion at Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Through the role, he provides leadership and support for the Campus Ministry team; the Dovre Center for Faith and Learning; and the Lorentzsen Center for Faith and Work. Campus Ministry at Concordia is at the heart of spiritual life on campus, expressed in worship, faith formation and service. Chan, staff and student leaders run the organization that is a full partner in the Reconciling in Christ community. At Campus Ministry, all are welcome. The Dovre Center for Faith and Learning promotes dialogue on the dynamic interplay of faith and learning. The center aims to encourage and sustain discussion on related issues through programs, workshops and study abroad experiences. In addition, Chan leads the Lorentzsen Center for Faith and Work in exploring how to build a more trustworthy world through hosting keynote events, a podcast, and a regular newsletter. Chan has been with Concordia College since June 2022, when he originally joined as the executive director for faith and learning. Previously, Chan was associate professor of Old Testament at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He joined Luther Seminary after completing a Ph.D. in the Hebrew Bible at Emory University and spending a year conducting research and teaching at the University of Helsinki. Beyond his many articles and essays, Chan is the author of The Wealth of Nations: A Tradition-Historical Study. He also coauthored the book Exploring the Bible, a journey through scripture that helps readers claim their unique interpretive perspective. Chan graduated from Luther Seminary with a Master of Arts in biblical theology. He also received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Pacific Lutheran University.
