About this event

Following a brief members meeting, Mauro Trejo will speak about the history of the Santa Cruz river in Tucson. The Santa Cruz river has provided a lifeline for the Tucson Basin for millennia, and been integral to the flourishing civilization that has taken place over that time. He will touch on how the river enabled and sustained one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in North America, how it has changed since the mid-19th century, and learn about the people and events that led to its current state. Mauro Trejo is a local public historian, and staff and board member of The Tucson Presidio Trust, Los Descendientes de Tucson, and The Anza Trail Foundation. In addition he is a commissioner with the Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission and a member of the Barrio Histórico Advisory Committee. He has spent most of his life studying the history of Tucson and gives numerous talks and walking tours sharing the history of this amazing place. Mauro also runs Trejo’s Tucson Walking Tours and is a 7th generation native with family roots dating back to 1780 in Tucson.
