Meet: Fritz Pollard - The Fredrick Douglass of Football – Make a Team Pennant

Fredrick "Fritz" Douglass Pollard is a Chicago-born, Lane Tech High School graduate. In 1921, he earned another distinction becoming the first African American head coach in NFL history when the Pros named him co-coach of the team. Join us for this special workshop program that brings to the forefront the story of Fritz and his history-making impact in Chicago and in football. This is family friendly program designed to learn about the life and legacy of Fritz Pollard. Participants of this workshop will design their own felt pennant that represents their favorite team, community, hobby, idea or all of the above. Learn more in our archives! Presented as part of the Renaissance Project, this event invites participants to actively engage with the rich and often untold stories of Black history and heritage at Chicago Public Library. This program is made possible with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to the Chicago Public Library Foundation. How to Attend Register by the start of the event.
