May FĂȘte: A Century-Old Cathedral Tradition of Children, Community & Joy at Christ Church Cathedral in Houston, TX on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Some traditions are worth keeping â and May FĂȘte is one that Christ Church Cathedral has been keeping for over 120 years. In the 1890s, the people of Christ Church decided to launch a spring festival to celebrate youth, joy, and faith. What began as a community gathering in the heart of downtown Houston has grown into one of the Cathedralâs most beloved annual occasions â a day when the whole congregation, across generations and languages, comes together to celebrate the children in our midst and the God who delights in them. This yearâs May FĂȘte begins with a combined bilingual worship service at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral. Following worship, the festivities move to Reynolds Hall and Huffington Yard for an afternoon of performances, childrenâs activities, games, and lunch for all. Cherished traditions include the Maypole dance and the crowning of the May FĂȘte royals. There is something for everyone â and every pair of hands is welcome to help make it happen. May FĂȘte is free and open to all. Volunteers are essential to the dayâs success; if youâd like to share your time and talents, weâd love to have you. In the event of inclement weather, activities will move indoors â look for sandwich boards around campus with updated locations. No registration required. Just come ready to celebrate. Questions?
