Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, pianist and composer Marta Sánchez is actively working in the contemporary creative music scene in New York City and around the globe. Charting a significant path through her innovative and original music, she has reached an international audience and gained significant global recognition. Sánchez, the 2025 DownBeat Critics Poll ‘Rising Star’ in piano, leads a quintet on this concert date featuring Devon Gates on vocals, Alex LoRe on alto saxophone, Roman Filiu on tenor saxophone, Rashaan Carter on bass, and Allan Mednard on drums. The group has released five albums, two of them selected by The New York Times among the ten best records of their respective release years. Sánchez is currently presenting the music of her latest album, Shamanism, in which she expands the quintet with vocals, combining her music with lyrics that address often-unspoken experiences, including depression, infertility, and ageism, among others.
