About this event
Monday, September 14 12 PM Mar Picao is a quintet led by San Diego-based Panamanian composer and pianist Julio Valdés. Drawing inspiration from the ocean's raw power, an idea embedded in the band's name, the group has spent a decade crafting a sound that defies easy categorization: unmistakably rooted in Afro-Cuban folklore yet propelled by the atmospheric density of rock and the improvisational spirit of jazz. The result is an album that honors its Afro-Cuban roots while reaching boldly toward new dimensions. Mar Picao has performed at notable regional venues and events including Dizzy's, Lou Lou's Lounge, and Panama 66 in San Diego, Bellamy's in Escondido, the San Diego Food & Wine Festival, and the Blanket Sounds summer music series in downtown San Diego. With a fiercely original voice and a…
