Make+Take: Relief Printed Halloween Mini Tote Bag

Let’s Make+Take!—In this 2-hour class, you will learn how we created our pre-carved, halloween-inspired relief blocks, techniques for inking the blocks, and then how to print on a cotton tote bag. When the class is over, you’ll have learned all the basic printing techniques plus have a mini tote bag and extra prints to take home—just in time for Halloween! Level: Beginner – no previous experience necessary! Registration closes October 14, 2026 and includes all materials. Just come ready for some inky fun! Though not required, students may want to consider bringing the following supplies: (optional) Personal apron (we’ll have extras on hand) or wear clothes that can get inky (optional) Any extra paper you’d like to try printing on (we’ll have extras of this too!) MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Pamela Harris Lawton, Florence Gaskins Harper Endowed Chair in Art Education and thought leader for the Hurwitz Center at the Maryland Institute College of Art, is a fifth-generation Washingtonian, educator, and product of DC public schools. Lawton was introduced to printmaking as a participant in Discover Graphics, a professional printmaking program housed at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She holds a BA degree in Studio Art and Sociology, an MFA in Printmaking, and an EdDCTA in art education. For the past 25 years she has taught art/art education at the college level and served as Director of Education Studies at the former Corcoran College of Art + Design. Honors include NAEA Distinguished Fellow, NAEA Higher Education Art Educator of the Year (2025), J. Eugene Grigsby Award (COMC/NAEA), Pearl Greenberg Award for Teaching and Research in Art Education, Fulbright Distinguished Chair at the University of Edinburgh-UK, and Associate Artist at the Tate Exchange in London.
