Love Your Library Day: Library Checkout Card Bookmarks

Few things in libraries are more iconic than the humble checkout card. For those who might not know, checkout cards were small index cards tucked a pocket on the book's back cover to track who borrowed the book and when it was due. These cards listed the book's title and author, and has columns where the librarian wrote the borrower's name (that's you!) and stamped the return date. We wanted everyone to be able to experience this, so please enjoy this craft: making "vintage" catalog bookmarks. Choose a color for your bookmark. Write your name on the top of the bookmark, under "issued to:". Put the bookmark in the plastic sleeve. Choose a tassel and thread it through the plastic sleeve. As you read, take the bookmark out of the plastic sleeve and update it with the books you finished.
