A thriving, often-overlooked arts community has sprung up in Long Island City. In addition to the usual attractions--art galleries and MoMA PS1, a contemporary-arts center affiliated with the Museum of Modern Art--neighborhood artists will open their studios to the public this weekend. We'll also visit Gantry State Park overlooking the East River, with great views of Manhattan. LUNCH: Bring your own. We'll eat somewhere between 2 and 2:30. DISTANCE: About 2-3 miles, ending at around 4 PM. But you can leave earlier, of course. LUNCH: At around 2 pm in a park overlooking the river. Bring your own food or buy it before the walk starts COST: Whatever you wish to pay at the museum plus $1 CASH for me. ENDING TIME: Approximately 4 PM. But you can leave earlier, of course. TRANSPORTATION: G, E, M, or 7 train to Court Square. The exit near the back of the train from Manhattan is closer to the museum. Please google MTA planned service changes for details about changes on your subway lines.
