About this event

Sunday, November 8, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. with a 1-hour lunch break. Prerequisite: Prior long-form training or permission of the instructor and principal. The challenge for most improvisers is trying to stick to “the rules” and believing “Yes, and” is the magic formula for a successful scene. Characters meander and never find their footing. In an instant, you travel from a state of fluidity to a mess of frustration and ask yourself, “How did I go wrong?” or “Now what?” These masterclasses provide methods and exercises that teach you to connect to your partner and the scene without worrying about the rules. Long-Form Skills, Short-Form Games: Long-form and short-form improvisation aren’t mutually exclusive; they use the same skills that are the foundation for exciting work. Now that you know how to create great scenework, pop that skill set into the improv games you love. This all-day workshop will dive into classic shortform games, focusing on groundedness, connection, and character dynamics. Take your game-playing to the next level. About the instructor: David Razowsky studied, performed, taught, and directed at Second City with performers Stephen Colbert, Steve Carrell, and Michael Keegan-Key, among many others. He went on to serve as Artistic Director of Second City Hollywood for nine years before turning his attention to full-time coaching. He has directed and taught his methodology to individuals and groups in the US and worldwide. All sales are final. There are no refunds or exchanges. Class Policies Patrons must be 18 or older to attend events or classes at the DC Improv. Any exceptions are clearly noted in the event descriptions on dcimprov.com.
