About this event
Community Room. Casual community gathering organized by community member Francesca. Please register to attend using the signup form on this page. From Francesca: I diagnosed myself at 20 years old. I brought my abnormal psychology textbook to my parents, opened at the page with the heading 'Manic Depression", as bipolar used to be called. The books description said "it is a catastrophic illness". Then, I asked my parents to pay for a visit with a psychiatrist, to make sure I was on the right track. My psychiatrist response was "you HAVE to get on lithium", which is the first medicine recognized as helpful in the treatment of bipolar disorder. So let me tell you what I learned about coping with bipolar I in the past 43 years. And yes, it is a catastrophic illness, no doubt about it, but there are also plenty of excellent resources, plus great therapists, and doctors, or psychiatric nurses, and INFINITE LIGHT and HOPE! You can live a life worth living, while being accompanied by bipolar I.
