Live Music: Lauren Murphy

From the southern to west coasts, Lauren Murphy is not only a beloved talent, but she has become somewhat of a folk hero. Writing through both the death of her singing partner/husband, and 8 years later, the loss of her co-writer/drummer, she is a staunch survivor whose tenacity can be heard in her music. Her former band, 'The Psychedelics', garnered both local and nation acclaim during its 7 year run. A versatile performer, Murphy specializes in power vocals and haunting melodies, and is an accomplished guitarist in her own right. Americana Highways describes Murphy’s voice as ‘warm, unique jazz-tinged, with excellent intonation and phrasing’ that is like a ‘fine french brandy’. Compared to Grace Slick & Janis Joplin, Murphy is a force all her own. Lauren currently resides in a 125 year old shotgun house in Madisonville, and is returning from a 2 year hiatus from the music Industry. A new single is in the works, and it will be produced by Grammy Winning Cajun artist, Louis Michot.
