About this event

Lions KidSight USA is a nation-wide program that brings Lions clubs across the country together to ensure our children receive eye screenings. These are not eye exams, but are quick and local screenings to identify concerns that may require further follow-up. 1-in-3 young children have poor but correctable vision – often just needing eyeglasses. We will be offering free screening to any young children who do not fall within our other scheduled screens. In East Haddam, all children in PreK -Grade 5 are screened at the public schools. In addition, our 3 largest daycare centers participate in this program. Young children may have visual conditions that are sight threatening. The most common is amblyopia, or lazy eye. This is a condition in which the vision of one eye just doesn’t develop the same as the other. If not detected and treated by age 6 the chances of successful outcomes drop off dramatically. This can affect a child throughout their life. Our simple, safe, touchless screening can detect risk factors for this condition in seconds. Across the entire country – from Oregon on the west coast to Connecticut out East – Lions KidSight initiatives have been operating since 1998, when the first generation of vision screening cameras were introduced. All these programs use newer, more efficient and touch-less digital screening devices.
