This tour and the live music outdoors are free with a welcome contribution to your tour guide at the end via cash, Venmo or Zelle. Description Join us for guided stroll through the Lincoln Square neighborhood. We'll top it off with an optional free Latin American music concert on the Hudson River (7pm - 9pm), and with any luck a nice sunset! This guided walking tour ends around 6:15pm so staying afterwards to hang with the group is optional (and recommended of course). Arriving before the music starts increases the chances of getting seats at Pier 1 in Riverside Park (around 70th Street). Public transportation at our ending location: Available at 72nd Street & Broadway (subway 1,2,3), M5 bus on Riverside Drive, M104 on Broadway and the M72 and M66 crosstown buses. Lincoln Square: Spanning from 60th Street to 70th Streets, this sprawling neighborhood between Central Park and the Hudson River has quite an array of environments and unique buildings from elegant pre-war architecture to what is essentially a new neighborhood on Riverside Boulevard. We'll also learn about the San Juan Hill neighborhood that pre-dated Lincoln Center (built in the 1960s), which was a diverse African-American and Latinx community, and was largely the inspiration for the musical "West Side Story." The neighborhood was a legendary hotbed of musical innovation. —which contributed to everything from stride piano and bebop to Afro-Cuban jazz, mambo, and bomba—greatlyly informing Leonard Bernstein and Steven Sondheim's iconic, genre-blending musical. Other stops include the "Ghostbuster's Building," on Central Park West, the eclectic West Side YMCA building, and a really cool street that was one of NYC's first artist's colony in the early 1900s.
