LGBT Health Workshop with Dr. Irwin

Meeting Room 206, 2nd Floor. In this workshop, Dr. Jay A. Irwin (they/them and he/him pronouns), Associate Professor of Sociology at University of Nebraska at Omaha, will present on the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities. Topics include dynamics of identity and behavior, health disparities faced by LGBTQIA+ people including physical and mental health disparities, and ways and strategies to increase inclusion. Dr. Jay Irwin, whose research, publications, and public service involve the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ communities. Their work has been published in the following peer-reviewed journals: Journal of Gay and Lesbian Mental Health, Sexuality Research and Social Policy, Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity, Gender Issues, Journal of Homosexuality, International Journal of Transgender Health (formerly International Journal of Transgenderism), Transgender Health, LGBT Health, among others. They have worked with undergraduate and graduate students, community organizations, nonprofits, and academic organizations to train individuals on the importance of inclusive health practices for LGBTQIA+ individuals for more than 15 years. This is a free event for adults and teens. This program does not require registration. All Omaha Public Library locations are wheelchair accessible.
