About this event

Community Room. Join us for these free lecture programs to get a taste of what Learning in Retirement (LIR) has to offer! LIR offers a variety of courses both in person and online for retirees, taught by experts and former teachers who love to share their passions. Low cost, six-week courses cover current events, history, medicine, languages, technology, nature, and many other topics. For more information visit lirpalmdesert.com, or search "LIR Palm Desert" on Facebook or YouTube. The world's greatest art—from the Mona Lisa to Chicago's Picasso sculpture—has been stolen, forged, decried, and smashed. Join us to see and hear about four famous cases: the hailstorm over New York's gay liberation sculpture, Han Van Meegeren's forged "Vermeers," the slashing of the Rokeby Venus, and Napoleon's theft of countless art treasures. Each one is fascinating, and each one raises questions about how we value art. Steve Kendall is a docent at two art museums and teaches a wide variety of art history courses at two lifelong learning programs, including Learning in Retirement in Palm Desert.
