About this event

Innisfree’s Late Summer Community Day is a wonderful opportunity for local residents to explore the garden, enjoy the changing season, and take part in two special programs inspired by Asian artistic traditions. While Innisfree is especially known for its deep roots in Chinese landscape painting and garden design, it was also influenced by Japanese garden design. This Community Day honors those broader Asian influences with a lively nod to Japanese arts through hands-on calligraphy and the resonant sound of taiko drumming in the garden. Once again, thanks in part to a generous grant from the Northeast Dutchess Fund, a fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Innisfree is delighted to offer free admission and DISCOUNTED event tickets to residents of these Northeast Dutchess County communities and their hamlets on this day: Amenia, Clinton Corners, Pleasant Valley, Dover Plains, Millbrook, Millerton, North East, Pine Plains, Stanford, Washington, Wassaic, Wingdale. Our neighbors must present proof of residency upon arrival. During the day there are three wonderful programs in which to participate: Morning Light at Innisfree at 5:00 AM: Innisfree will open its gates an hour before sunrise to offer visitors a rare and unforgettable experience: watching the first light of day unfold across Tyrrel Lake. As dawn transforms mist, water, and stone into a shifting canvas of color, guests can wander the landscape in quiet contemplation or capture the moment through their lenses. These early-morning openings have become a beloved tradition for photographers and nature lovers alike—an opportunity to experience Innisfree’s beauty at its most tranquil and luminous. Learn more HERE. Japanese Taiko Drumming Workshop with Mujin Taiko at 11 AM: Experience the powerful sound and energy of Japanese taiko drumming on Innisfree’s scenic overlook. This participatory workshop will introduce visitors to the rhythms, movement, and spirit of taiko. To give everyone room to play,…
