This is a longer version of the usual White Owl Canyon taking us through several areas not normally traveled and turning it into a loop. From the lake we pass through two corrugated steel drainage tunnels leading under Lakeshore Dr and under the River Mountain loop. This leads to a wide open wash, followed by a winding narrow wash believed to be a mountain lion ambush area. We will hit a dry waterfall that is easily bypassed by walking up a steep hillside to get around, poles will be helpful here. Once we cross over to the 2nd canyon and we begin going downhill, you will be treated to many scenic views of this rarely seen area of the River Mountains. As we get closer to the lake we will enter the White Owl Canyon, keep your eyes peeled and look up and you may glimpse the owl that gives the canyon its name.
