About this event
Join the African American Department in celebrating Kwanzaa. This trivia is dedicated to honoring African heritage and culture. Observed from December 26 to January 1, Kwanzaa was created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga as a response to the cultural disconnection experienced by African Americans. The celebration incorporates various cultural practices, including lighting the kinara (candle holder), sharing stories, and participating in communal feasts. Kwanzaa emphasizes the importance of family, community, and cultural identity, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among participants. Attendees will collect points as they are quizzed on the history, cultural aspects, core principles, and more. Teams will be limited to 3 people — you can come and partner up, team up with people you meet here, or work alone if you prefer.
