Jazzbird Nights: Running from Bears plays the Music of Charles Mingus

WHAT TO EXPECT Adventurous Arizona-native band Running from Bears takes on the venerable music and history of Arizona’s greatest jazz bassist and composer, Charles Mingus. The Bears will be covering most of his career, from songs rooted in the work of Duke Ellington, to lush ballads, to hard-driving post bop, and energetic, layered themes with overtones of film score. Hear the stories behind the songs and the genius work of one of jazz’s most important composers, played by one of Arizaon’s most forward thinking bands. ABOUT THE ARTIST Tenor saxophonist Adam Roberts is an accomplished performer, composer, and educator based in Arizona. He serves as the Instrumental Music Lead at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, where he directs jazz and concert ensembles and mentors emerging musicians. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Adam is also an active clinician and composer whose work spans jazz, funk, and rock. His passion for musical exploration and education continues to inspire both his students and audiences across the Valley.
