WHAT TO EXPECT Take on an evening of spirited hard bop jazz with saxophonist Dave Schmidt, and trumpeter Denny Monce, with soulful sound, swinging rhythms, and expressive improvisation bring classic jazz traditions to life. Blending timeless influences with fresh energy, along with some from today’s jazz scene. ABOUT THE ARTIST Dave Schmidt and Denny Monce have performed together in many different musical situations over the years. They discovered their common passion for jazz music playing for events during dinner music and have been talking about putting together a project that embraces this passion for over three decades. That dream has come to fruition, and they refer to the project as “hard-bop and beyond”. Dave Schmidt is an esteemed jazz musician and educator based in Phoenix Arizona. After completing his formal education at Indiana University and Arizona State University, Dave has a career spanning over three decades as a music professor at Glendale Community College (GCC) as well as a top call freelance musician. Over the years he has performed extensively with various local and national touring groups, enriching his experience and honing his skills. Outside of performing Dave enjoys writing, arranging and producing music at his home recording studio. Denny Monce is a respected jazz trumpeter, educator, and freelance musician based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Over the course of his career, he has performed with numerous national touring acts and working extensively in musical theater productions. He is deeply involved in jazz education and serves on the jazz studies faculty at Arizona State University.
