About this event
Bassani Theater, Third floor. They called it the "devil's horn." Invented by Belgian instrument maker Adolphe Sax in the 1840s, the saxophone was meant for military bands and orchestras, but it found its true voice in jazz, and scandalized plenty of people along the way. Discover how one inventor's creation became the sound of cool, then hear the pioneers who defined it, from Sidney Bechet and Coleman Hawkins to Charlie Parker and John Coltrane.
