Japanese Classic Novel, I am a Cat by Sōseki Natsume

Join us for a discussion of I am a Cat by Sōseki Natsume. The novel was serialized in 1905 and 1906. It's a "richly allegorical and delightfully readable" satire of Japanese society at the time as seen through the eyes of a highly observant cat. One reviewer describes the book as "a nonchalant string of anecdotes and wisecracks." A change of pace for us after the much grimmer Japanese works we've read so far. The novel is a three volume work of 469 pages; the 2002 Tuttle publication contains all three. We'll be meeting at Lounge 72, the hotel bar at the Doubletree by Hilton in Hazard Center.
