It’s Complicated: Orphans, Italian Adoptions, & Finding Your Roots
Dr. Kerry Sachetta will discuss the history of unwanted children from Medieval practices through today, and how the Italian Orphan Program 1950-1970 addressed the issue of orphaned and unwanted children after WWII. Maria Laurino’s book, The Price Of Children: Stolen Lives In a Land Without Choice, will be discussed. Dr. Sachetta will also highlight his fascinating story of an Italian-American adoptee who came through the post WWII Italian orphan program and found his Italian roots. This event is part of Joplin Public Library’s Joplin Reads Together program. Free and open to the public.
