About this event
Mary Flood Room. Join us at this special reception celebrating the exhibition of Wangunk Elder Gary Red Oak O’Neil’s ceramics alongside a display of other contemporary Wangunk works curated by the artist. Learn about the original caretakers of Portland as you trace connections between family, land, memory, and cultural preservation. Elder, artist, and tribal historian Gary Red Oak O’Neil is an educator and a descendant of the Wangunk Jonathan Palmer line. He is the genealogist of the remaining Wangunks in Middlesex County, and has served as an organizer and leader of that community since the 1970s. Gary Red Oak O’Neil’s pottery exhibit will be in the display cases in the Portland Library from October 17 through November 19. The Wangunk Artists exhibit will run in the Mary Flood room from November 3 through December 7. Reception sponsored by the Friends of the Portland Public Library.
