Introduction to Screenprinting on Paper

Learn the basics of screenprinting—an artistic, yet economical, method for producing prints from digital or hand-drawn designs. This workshop will prepare you to work independently in the darkroom and studio. You will learn how to prepare images, expose a screen, and print a single color (layer) with water-based inks on paper. Each student will leave with several prints of their own design. Level: Beginner – no experience necessary Registration closes October 3, 2026. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. Students will need to gather/purchase additional materials for class (see the materials list below). This list will also be provided with the registration confirmation email. Sample by Kevin Velazquez WORKSHOP SUPPLIES: Registration includes a $36 materials fee to cover the materials supplied in class, including emulsion, tape, ink, paper, and access to a silkscreen for class use.In addition, students are requested to bring the following items: (optional) Personal apron (we’ll have extras) or wear clothes that can get a bit messy (optional) Pencil and paper (if you want to take notes) A high contrast, black and white image to work with*—more specific details will be provided at registration Note: If you think you’d like to keep printing beyond the class, new 20×24” silkscreens are available for purchase for $30. You’ll have the option to purchase one at checkout. MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Jeanette M. Bolden is a visual artist and screen printer based in Maryland. She has a B.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her work is characterized by vivid colors and semi-nonrepresentational composition, forming a microcosm that represents the intangible and reveals the nuances of the tangible.
