Intro to Cyanotype Printing

Join artist Julia Swyers (featured in the August issue of Westchester Magazine) to discover the beauty of cyanotype, a photographic printing process known for its rich blue-and-white images. In this workshop, you’ll learn about the light-sensitive chemistry behind cyanotypes, coat your own paper, and expose and develop original botanical prints using natural materials. Leave with your own unique handmade prints and the knowledge and confidence to continue creating cyanotype art at home. This beginner-friendly workshop is open to everyone—no artistic experience is required. Admission: $55 About the Instructor Julia Swyers first learned the cyanotype process while studying photography at the School of Visual Arts. She started making botanical cyanotypes at home as an activity to do with her young daughter using commercially available coated paper. In her own art practice, she began coating her own paper and experimenting with homemade cameras using the cyanotype printing process. She has taught all types of learners, from elementary children in schools to adults in workshops. This program is eligible for the JCCMW Arts & Culture Passport.
