Intro to Acting

This welcoming six-session course invites community members ages 16 and up to step onto the stage at Gesa Power House Theatre and explore the fundamentals of acting in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Taught by longtime performer and beloved former Walla Walla Community College instructor Kevin Loomer, the class is designed for beginners as well as anyone curious about reconnecting with their creativity. Through theatre games, scene exploration, voice and movement exercises, and ensemble activities, participants will build confidence, presence, and authentic communication. Whether you’ve always wanted to try acting, want to feel more comfortable speaking in front of others, or are simply looking for a creative outlet and a welcoming community, this class offers a chance to play, explore, and grow. Participants may explore: • Theatre games that build trust, creativity, and spontaneity • Voice and movement exercises to develop presence and expression • Basic acting tools for approaching scenes and characters • Listening and responding authentically with scene partners • Improvisation techniques that help participants get out of their heads and into the moment • Ensemble work that fosters connection and collaboration Each session will build on the group’s comfort and curiosity, allowing the instructor to adapt activities to the interests and experience level of the participants. About the Instructor Kevin Loomer is an experienced actor, director, and teacher who spent many years inspiring students as a theatre instructor at Walla Walla Community College.
