Inequality Today: Do We Need Our Own Jubilee?

As described in Leviticus, the Year of Jubilee, occurring every 50 years, is one in which indentured servants were to be released, debts to be forgiven, and all were to return to their own property. Jubilee represents a reset - a time for sweeping away accumulated economic and social detritus. Even if we set aside the religious dimensions of Jubilee, it remains an interesting and compelling concept. In a world of ever-rising inequality, the idea that we, as a society, should occasionally "level" things out is a compelling one. But is inequality a problem to be fixed? If so, how could we fix it? Could a periodic "Jubilee" be a potential solution? What would or could it look like? Join us as we discuss excess, inequality, social "flattening", and more!
