OVERVIEW Our art teacher will offer a demonstration, guiding students step-by-step, from start to finish. You will create a simple landscape pastel drawing to take home at the end of class. No drawing experience is necessary since the course is for beginners, and we will provide all the materials. SPECIFICATIONS In this course, the student will draw with soft pastels from a selected photo reference, using a light mid-tone paper surface, and blending tools. The mid-tone surface allows the student to add value when making the colors darker and subtract value when making them lighter. Working in both directions will add a natural and realistic character to the drawing. The student will start with a simple sketch, using lines to create a basic shape while considering the proportions. Then the student will find and apply the values to the drawing using analogous soft pastel colors, creating areas of colors indicating light and shadow. The student will be using blending tools to create a color gradient while working on layering the soft pastel colors. Lastly, we will create a shadow for the object in the background and use lighter colors to reveal the illumination source.
