Immigration Imagination Lab: Practice English Through Theater

The Immigrant Imagination Lab is a series of theater workshops for English learners happening this fall at Flatbush Library. Join us for a series of six weekly sessions on Wednesdays from 3-5pm. This program is designed for intermediate-level English language learners and up, but any level will be welcomed and accommodated. If you are looking for a creative and embodied way to practice the language, build community, grow your confidence and make theater, these workshops are for you! This program is led by immigrant theater artists and educators Ana Cantorán Viramontes from Mexico and Susanna Brock from Sweden. Our approach to practicing English through theater is centered in play, community building, and the celebration of our cultures and identities. We want you to connect with other English learners and immigrants, to grow your confidence and efficacy in expressing yourself in English, and to advocate for yourself and your needs. During the sessions we will engage in physical theater activities, theater improvisation, storytelling activities, role play and scene making. Come join the fun! Registration is strongly encouraged for this program, but walk-ins are welcome. There is a 15-person capacity for each session. Immigration Imagination Lab is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).
