About this event
Pomares Community Room. A poetry writing workshop focusing on meter! Participants will consider meter as one method of making a poetic line melodic and will practice recognizing and writing in various metrical patterns. A final exercise will offer a prompt for a short poem and at the end those who like may read their work aloud. The session is appropriate for all, including those who have never attempted creative writing and published authors. The workshop will be led by Goshen poet William Seaton whose own most recent collection is Planetary Motions (Giant Steps Press). A familiar figure in the Hudson Valley poetry scene, Seaton conducted workshops for four years for the Northeast Poetry Center’s College of Poetry and produced the Poetry on the Loose Reading/Performance Series for twenty-one years in Middletown, Warwick, and Sugar Loaf. He has been writing and performing for well over fifty years and has read his work widely, including in Nepal, Mexico, Hungary, London, and Czechia. He maintains a mostly literary blog at williamseaton.blogspot.com. Those interested in spending an hour and a half cultivating their own artistic capability in the company of like-minded neighbors are invited to register for the workshop on the library’s website.
