HOUSE BAND GIG – ST. ANN FAMILY FEST: LIVE STUDENT ROCK IN METAIRIE October in Metairie means the school yard turns into a festival, and this year it comes with a full band of kids on stage. The School of Rock Metairie / New Orleans House Band is playing the St. Ann Family Fest on Saturday, October 10 — real amps, real drums, real volume, right in the middle of the food, the rides, and the neighborhood crowd. Every player up there is one of our students. The House Band is the top tier of the school — kids who auditioned for their spot and have spent the whole season in our rehearsal rooms learning these songs part by part, locking in with each other, and getting the set tight enough to play in front of a few hundred people on a Saturday afternoon. This isn't a recital and it isn't a backing track. It's a band. School of Rock Metairie / New Orleans is an extracurricular, performance-based music school with programs for ages 4 through adult — guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals, all taught in a band and pointed at a stage. That's the whole idea: you don't learn to play live by practicing alone in a bedroom, you learn it by walking out in front of people and doing it. Live student performance is what keeps this city loud, and these are the players who'll be filling New Orleans stages for the next twenty years. So come out to the Family Fest, grab a plate, and post up in front of the stage for a set from a student rock band that'll surprise you. Then come find us afterward about a free trial lesson — music lessons in Metairie and New Orleans, beginners through advanced, ages 4 to adult, at the kids music school where everybody ends up onstage.
