HOUSE BAND GIG – OAK STREET PO-BOY FESTIVAL Before the first po-boy hits the grill, Oak Street is already turning up. On Sunday, November 8, the School of Rock Metairie/New Orleans House Band opens the live music at the 18th Annual Oak Street Po-Boy Festival. They take the NOLA Douggie Stage / Leonidas at 9:50 AM with a full set of real-deal rock and roll. If you've never been to a School of Rock show, here's what you're walking into: every musician on that stage is one of our students. The singers, guitarists, bassists, drummers and keyboard players have spent the entire season rehearsing these songs at the school, and this is where it all comes together in front of a festival crowd. No backing tracks, no shortcuts, just a student rock band playing loud, tight and live in the heart of Carrollton. This is what the future of music looks like. Live student performance keeps music alive in New Orleans and in cities all over the world, and every kid who steps on a stage like this one carries that forward. The Po-Boy Fest is a family event, and the School of Rock Kid Zone is set up right on site. Kids can jump on a live jam setup with guitars, bass, drums and vocals while our instructors help them out, then make music-themed crafts and ornaments. School of Rock Metairie/New Orleans is an extracurricular, performance-based music school with programs for students ages 4 through adult. We're not about sitting in a practice room. Our students learn by playing real songs in real bands on real stages, from their first lessons all the way to gigs like this one.
